When my mind is troubled
I go out to run.
Across suburban Geebung,
Below the morning sun


And somewhere on my journey
I begin to find
These old legs have carried me
To my peace of mind.

My authorship has laid me down
My words bend and exert me
You see, when I began to write,
I knew the end would hurt me.

Compulsive chords are changing
Into systems endocrine.
It helps to keep on going
When I don’t like what’s behind.

I run on and on through the streets and the lawns
And the bicycle path, by the vines
The sun’s shining bright
It’ll all be alright
Cause I’m running to ease my mind.

My thighs and feet are aching
My lungs begin to burn
I pass the fenceless dog park
The place where big trucks turn

And I’ll just keep on going
Even though I’m not that fast
The bad can never catch up
when it hears me running past

I run steady and slow through the tracks and the roads
And the old tyre swing on the tree
The sun’s getting low
And so onward I go
Because out in the world, I am free.

When my mind is troubled, I go out to run
Across suburban Geebung, below the setting sun.
And as I crest the final hill the city shines so bright.
The pretty colours linger as I run into the night.


I run silent and still through the driveways and hills
The railroad and station lights gleam
I’m ending the race,
Everything’s in its place.
and I’m running toward my dreams.
